    Butter the bottom and sides of a cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper using butter .

    Peel, core, and score each apple (peeled, cored, halved, thinly sliced across the surface). Immediately toss the apple halves with juice to prevent browning.

    Cream butter (room temperature) with sugar and zest in a stand mixer on medium speed until pale and fluffy.
